Our philosophy

Your body was designed to move without pain.

Design 2 Move Pilates is built on a simple but powerful truth: the human body is a tensegrity system — a network of bones, muscles, and fascia that work in continuous, interdependent tension. When one part carries more load than it should, injury, pain, and restricted movement follow.

Every D2M session is built around restoring that balance. Using the globally recognized STOTT PILATES® method and guided by one of Arizona's most credentialed instructors, we identify the root cause of your movement dysfunction — then rebuild the patterns your body needs to thrive.

Whether you're recovering from surgery, training for competition, or simply ready to move better every day — we have a program built for you.

STOTT PILATES® Fully Certified Post-Rehab Specialist Athletic Conditioning Specialist Fascial Movement™ Instructor Kinesiology · ASU

Devi Rieker left a corporate career in 2006 to dedicate herself entirely to the study of human movement. What followed was nearly two decades of advanced training, clinical certifications, and hands-on experience helping clients do what they thought their bodies could no longer do.

Today, Devi brings that depth of knowledge to every session at Design 2 Move Pilates — from post-surgical recovery programs to elite athletic conditioning. Her approach is rooted in science, guided by the globally recognized STOTT PILATES® method, and shaped by a genuine belief that your body has more potential than you know.

"What drives me is not the exercise itself — it is the look on a client's face the moment their body does something they believed it no longer could."

What clients say

In their own word...

Expert answers. Real results.

Your Pilates questions, expertly answered.

Do I need prior Pilates experience to train at Design 2 Move?

No experience is required. Whether you have never done Pilates before or are returning after years away, we design every program from your individual starting point. All new clients at D2M begin with a private session that includes a postural analysis so we can understand your movement patterns, history, and goals before recommending a path forward. This ensures your first group class or private session is safe, productive, and tailored to you.

What should I expect in my first session at D2M Pilates?

Your first session is a discovery process as much as a workout. We begin with a postural and movement assessment to identify how your body is currently distributing tension and where imbalances exist. From there, your instructor will guide you through foundational exercises using the STOTT PILATES® method, introducing breathing patterns, spinal alignment, and core engagement at an appropriate level for your body. You will leave with a clear understanding of your movement baseline and a recommended program.

What should I wear and bring to class?

Wear fitted, comfortable athletic clothing that allows your instructor to observe your alignment — avoid very loose clothing. Grip socks are required for Reformer classes and are available for purchase at the studio. Arrive well-hydrated and avoid eating a heavy meal within an hour of your session. No special equipment is needed; all apparatus and props are provided.

Is Pilates only for women?

Not at all. Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates — a man — and was first used to rehabilitate injured athletes and dancers. Today, D2M works with clients of all genders, ages, and fitness backgrounds, including competitive male athletes, post-surgical patients, and corporate professionals. The STOTT PILATES® method is specifically designed to be universally applicable regardless of gender or fitness level.

Is Pilates effective for post-surgical recovery and rehabilitation?

Yes — and this is one of D2M's core specialties. Our lead instructor holds an advanced certification as a STOTT PILATES® Post-Rehabilitation Specialist, which is specifically designed to bridge the gap between physical therapy discharge and long-term functional recovery. Pilates addresses the entire kinetic chain, correcting the compensation patterns that develop after injury or surgery and rebuilding the neuromuscular connections needed for safe, lasting recovery. Common conditions we work with include post-orthopedic surgery, lower back dysfunction, hip and knee rehabilitation, and spinal conditions.

Can I do Pilates if I have chronic back pain?

Pilates is widely recognized as one of the most effective movement modalities for chronic back pain. The STOTT PILATES® method places particular emphasis on neutral spinal alignment and deep core stabilization — the two factors most commonly implicated in chronic back conditions. At D2M, we build programs specifically around your diagnosis and movement history, working in close coordination with your healthcare providers where appropriate. Many of our clients come to us after physical therapy has concluded and continue to make significant progress.

How is clinical Pilates different from a regular Pilates class?

Clinical Pilates applies the principles of movement science, anatomy, and rehabilitation to the Pilates method with a structured, assessment-driven approach. At D2M, every program begins with a postural analysis, and exercises are selected based on your specific movement dysfunction — not a generic class template. Our instructor's certifications in post-rehabilitation, athletic conditioning, and fascial movement allow us to address root causes rather than symptoms, making the work genuinely therapeutic rather than simply fitness-focused.

What is the STOTT PILATES® method and why does it matter?

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary, evidence-based evolution of the original Pilates method, refined through collaboration with sports medicine and rehabilitation professionals. STOTT PILATES® incorporates modern biomechanical principles including neutral spine positioning, which is safer for a wider range of bodies and conditions. It is recognized globally as one of the most rigorous and medically respected Pilates certifications available. At D2M, every session is built on this foundation — meaning the work you do is grounded in science, not trend.

Can Pilates help with scoliosis, hip replacements, or herniated discs?

Yes, with appropriate modifications. D2M has experience working with clients managing scoliosis, post-hip and knee replacement recovery, herniated and bulging discs, shoulder impingement, and other structural conditions. We always recommend informing us of any diagnosed conditions before your first session, and we encourage open communication with your physician or physical therapist. Our post-rehabilitation training equips us to design programs that are both safe and genuinely effective for complex conditions.

How does Pilates benefit competitive athletes?

Pilates develops the foundational qualities that directly translate to athletic performance — core stability, hip mobility, posterior chain strength, rotational power, and body awareness. Our Athletic Conditioning Specialist certification is specifically designed for performance-focused programming. D2M works with triathletes, swimmers, runners, cyclists, golfers, and team sport athletes looking to improve efficiency, prevent injury, and extend their competitive longevity. Many athletes find that Pilates addresses the movement asymmetries that other training modalities reinforce.

Can Pilates replace my current strength or conditioning training?

Pilates is most effective as a complement to, not a replacement for, sport-specific training. At D2M, we typically recommend integrating Pilates into your existing schedule as a 1–2 session per week foundation — addressing the movement quality and stability deficits that limit how well everything else you do translates to performance. That said, for clients in active rehabilitation or recovery phases, Pilates may temporarily become the primary modality.

I'm a high-performance athlete. Will Pilates be challenging enough?

Absolutely. The STOTT PILATES® method offers progressions through essential, intermediate, and advanced levels that challenge even elite-level athletes. Many athletes are surprised to discover significant weaknesses in lateral hip stability, deep spinal control, or single-leg balance that Pilates exposes immediately. The challenge at D2M is always calibrated to your actual movement capacity — not your fitness level in a broader sense.

What makes Design 2 Move Pilates different from other studios in Chandler?

Three things set D2M apart. First, the depth of clinical training — our lead instructor holds six advanced certifications including STOTT PILATES® Full Instructor, Post-Rehabilitation Specialist, Athletic Conditioning Specialist, and Fascial Movement™ Instructor, and is currently pursuing a Kinesiology degree at Arizona State University. Second, class sizes are intentionally capped at 5 clients maximum, ensuring genuine individual attention in every session. Third, every program is built from a postural analysis — we do not use generic templates. You receive a program designed specifically for your body.

What is the difference between a private session, duet session, and group class?

Private sessions are 50 minutes of one-on-one instruction entirely focused on your individual goals, movement history, and postural needs — ideal for rehabilitation, specific performance goals, or clients who prefer personalized attention. Duet sessions is for two clients to  share a  private experience at a preferred rate. Group Reformer and mat classes provide a structured program in a small group of up to 5 participants, combining community with genuine instructional quality. New clients are required to complete at least one private session before joining group classes.

Do I need a referral from my doctor or physical therapist to start?

A referral is not required, though we always welcome communication from your healthcare team. If you are post-surgical or managing a diagnosed condition, we recommend informing your physician that you are beginning Pilates and sharing our contact information — many physical therapists and orthopedic providers in the Chandler and Phoenix area actively refer patients to clinical Pilates studios as part of a comprehensive recovery plan.

Where is Design 2 Move Pilates located?

D2M Pilates is located at 2160 West Chandler Boulevard, Suite 14, Chandler, Arizona 85224 — conveniently situated in the East Valley and easily accessible from Gilbert, Tempe, Mesa, and the broader Phoenix metro area. Spacious parking lot is available directly in front of the studio.
